Bathurst Region Snapshot

This section contains current plans and strategies developed or employed by Bathurst Region Tourism and essential statistical information regarding tourism and the economic impact of the visitor economy to the Bathurst region. Data is taken primarily from internal research conducted or commissioned by Bathurst Region Tourism, from Tourism Research Australia and Destination NSW. All sources are attributed and links provided to the original studies where appropriate.

The past three years have seen drought, fires, floods and a pandemic and as a consequence it is hard to benchmark accurately. The latest official Tourism Research Australia figures specific to the Bathurst Regional Council LGA are currently for 2019.

Tourism is a highly significant industry for the Bathurst region. The readily identified value of tourism and hospitality has increased significantly in the five years to 2019 from a total visitor spend of $181 million to total of $245 million. Total visitors have gone from 875,000 to 1,028,000 and total visitor nights from 723,000 to 1,316,000 over the same period (Tourism Research Australia). 

 

The combined industries directly employ 642 with indirect employment of an additional 195 representing 4.1% of total industry in the LGA (National Institute of Economic and Industry Research – NEIR)
